GranTurismo Shakes Up Greenwich
Latest Maserati Proves Crowd Favorite

The Delamar Hotel is the unofficial social headquarters of the Greenwich Concours d’Elegance, which took place in June in Connecticut’s elegant old town.  With yachts moored at the quay alongside the hotel’s outdoor café and a bevy of historic cars parked out front, the Delamar has become the real kick-off spot for the most important concours event in the Northeast.  As patrons and others in the know gathered to meet and greet in the marble lobby for the event kickoff party the night before the Concours opened, they were immediately drawn to a shapely form silhouetted under shimmering silver cloth.

Over wine and cheese, those who had marveled at it during the New York Auto Show correctly guessed the identity of the shrouded car – it was of course the new GranTurismo, and the luxury of the Delamar and the heritage of the Greenwich Concours were the perfect backdrop to showcase Maserati’s latest masterpiece.

Maserati North America President James Selwa and Public Relations Manager Jeffrey Ehoodin began the evening by welcoming everyone and briefly relating the story of Maserati’s road-going GT cars. It is an unbroken heritage stretching back to the immediate postwar era and the culmination of both the model line and the story is the 2008 GranTurismo, which was duly unveiled before the admiring crowd.

With its 405bhp V8 engine, optimal rear-biased balance and the new ZF 6-speed automatic transmission the new 2008 GranTurismo is transforming the luxury coupe segment months before the first deliveries are to be made.  Approbation at Greenwich was universal.  As the crowds came to see the car over the period of the Concours, Maserati North America and local host Miller Motor Cars registered enormous interest in this high-value sports coupe whose Pininfarina styling has rendered its few competitors aesthetically leaden. The success of its second public appearance in the Northeast was underscored by appreciation of the fact that this limited edition automobile is expected to be priced similarly to the outgoing GranSport.  This knowledge caused one gentleman to remark that while it was not entered in the concours competition, the GranTurismo had already won the show.
