Maserati Monthly Accessory Focus: Books
Should a college have the good taste to consider adding Maserati to the curriculum, they would face a dilemma in deciding the most appropriate subject. Design would be an obvious choice; technology would be equally appropriate. Materials science would find plenty of subject matter, with the use of fine leather, carbon fiber and wood trim; and studying the curves and swoops of the new GranTurismo would be ideal for an art thesis. Finally the story of Maserati would be perfectly at home in a history class. The Maserati showroom at 410 Park Avenue (at 55th Street) in Manhattan has a veritable library of books which would enable you to attend any of these courses with confidence. Here is a synopsis of three.

A good place to start would be “Maserati: The Grand Prix, Sports and GT Cars 1926-2003”, by Maurizio Tabucchi. This is an indispensable reference book, its 350 pages containing details of every Maserati made – there are abundant photos, narrative on each model giving its individual history and facts about each car and engine.
An equally comprehensive approach, though with a much narrower focus, is obvious in “Il Libro delle Corse” – in English, “The Racing Book”. With text in both Italian and English, this book celebrates the return of Maserati to competitive racing, and covers the 2003, 2004 and 2005 seasons.
For some background on the town which is home to Maserati, look no further than the book “Modena – Città della Maserati” – which translates to “Modena – Town of Maserati”. This lavishly illustrated book is a celebration of the art, architecture and history of Modena which has so profoundly contributed to the form and ethos of Italian sports cars, particularly Maserati.
