Maserati Powers Ahead Rising Sales in a Falling Market
Among all the bad news in the auto industry Maserati continues to buck the trend, demonstrating the marque's authentic exclusivity by increasing sales when its major competitors are cutting back production.
2008 has been brutal for most marques in the fiercely competitive $70,000-$120,000 sports segment. For example, to the end of September sales of Porsche 911 coupes were less than half what they were the previous year, while sales of Mercedes S-class sedans were down by over 25%. By contrast, Maserati sales were actually up, by more than a quarter. The increase is being powered primarily by the GranTurismo, the gorgeous Pininfarina-designed coupe which has been winning over journalists and automotive writers around the world. Demand for the car was such that initial production was sold out months in advance, even before a single car had been delivered to dealers. Its sales performance has shown just how much consumers have embraced the GranTurismo, and it has captured an 11% share of its segment, remarkable for a low volume manufacturer such as Maserati.

The Quattroporte continues to be the sedan of choice for those who value luxury, performance and exclusivity. With the 2009 models – featuring styling updated by Pininfarina, together with the introduction of the Quattroporte S and its 4.7 liter 425bhp engine – just reaching showrooms now, it seems certain that Maserati’s stellar sales performance will be sustained into the future.
While demand for the Quattroporte remains high, some potential clients interested in the world's finest sports sedan are finding that market conditions mean the value of their current car, such as a BMW, Mercedes or Bentley, has fallen dramatically. To help these enthusiasts achieve their dream of Quattroporte ownership, Maserati has a generous trade-assist program running through the end of November to help clients get more value out of their trade-in vehicle when they purchase, lease or finance a 2008 model year Quattroporte. In addition, Maserati Financial Services is working hard to develop new lease and finance offerings, to ensure that whether you opt for two or four doors, Maserati continues to stand out from the crowd.
