NEW: GranTurismo S Automatic
Effortless performance: pure granturismo

GranTurismo S Automatic at the Geneva Auto Show

The announcements of exciting new Maserati models just keep coming! First came the GranTurismo S, with the new 4.7-liter V8 engine and paddle-shift manual gearbox; then came the redesigned 2009 Quattroporte, with a new look emphasizing the family connection to the GranTurismo. In January the range was joined by the ultimate Quattroporte, the Sport GT S, combining the 4.7-liter engine with a sports exhaust system and optimized single-damper suspension. And now, debuting at the Geneva Auto Show, comes the purest incarnation of the grand touring concept yet – introducing the new GranTurismo S Automatic.

As its name suggests, the new model combines the muscular power of the 4.7-liter V8 engine of the ‘S’-series with the ZF 6-speed automatic transmission, giving the driver effortless performance, which is the essence of granturismo.  The granturismo concept also means comfort and luxury, which of course are well represented within the superb Pininfarina-designed two-door body that conceals four full seats and an interior swathed in Poltrona Frau leather. Also enhancing on-board comfort is the hard drive-based navigation system with 30GB of music storage, iPod integration, Bluetooth and pre-wiring for Sirius satellite radio – all standard. The GranTurismo S Automatic is also fitted with the adaptive Skyhook suspension, which can react to both road imperfections and the current driving style in as little as 0.01sec. Most importantly the car gains a version of the Sports exhaust system which gives the GranTurismo S such a marvelous voice.

Interior

Subtle changes to the exterior enhance Pininfarina’s design: the GranTurismo S Automatic has discreet side skirts which help manage airflow, while it rides on new 20” Trident wheels – each wheel has fifteen spokes arranged into five sets of Tridents. Interior trim is now available in Wengé wood, offering a sophisticated look with its rich, straight grain.

The addition of the GranTurismo S Automatic means the range has something for absolutely everyone – the GranTurismo, with its 4.2 liter engine and automatic transmission; the GranTurismo S for the enthusiast driver, with the aggressive MC-Shift gearbox and single-damper suspension; and now the GranTurismo S Automatic, for those who desire the extra performance of the larger engine combined with the comfort and convenience of the automatic transmission and Skyhook suspension.
